Das erste offizielle Porträt des britischen Königs Charles III. seit seiner Krönung wurde im Buckingham-Palast in London enthüllt.
Der Maler Jonathan Yeo wurde bereits 2020 mit der Ausführung des Gemäldes beauftragt – eigentlich aus Anlass des fünfzigsten Jahrestages von Charles‘ Mitgliedschaft in der Draper’s Company, der jahrhundertelangen Vereinigung von Kaufleuten, die sich heute karitativ engagiert.
Auf dem Gemälde ist der 75-jährige Monarch in der Uniform der Welsh Guards und mit Orden behängt dargestellt, die Hände auf einen Degen gestützt. Abgesehen von Gesicht und Händen scheint das gesamte Bild von einem hellroten Schleier verhüllt. Über der rechten Schulter des Monarchen schwebt ein Schmetterling. Der Künstler fügte ihn auf Anregung des Königs hinzu. Damit wolle Charles laut einer Meldung der britischen Nachrichtenagentur PA auf sein Engagement für den Umweltschutz hinweisen.
Der König in der Öffentlichkeit
Das Porträt war vom 16. Mai bis zum 14. Juni in der Philip Mould Gallery in London zu sehen. Ende August soll es dann dauerhaft in der Draper’s Hall zu sehen sein.
